In computers networks technology one talks about servers and clients. A server is a computer which shares resources (data, programs, memory, files, mass storage devices, printers, etc) with other computers in a network.

          A client is a computer which is using services from a server. It sends a request towards the server following some protocol asking for information or action and the server responds.

          One also talks about client software. That is a software installed on a client machine and that is part of a server-client relationship.
